We're back in Houghton after a fun-filled Grandma's Marathon weekend in Duluth. The weather was beautiful (except for the headwind per Patrick) and we enjoyed spending the weekend with the Vendlinski's (a family from the UP who had preemie twins - I neglected to ask permission to post pictures of them but their blog is http://vendlinskilife.blogspot.com/). This is our first trip since Charlotte was born that did not involve a medical visit - woohoo!
Patrick ran the marathon and here's Charlotte waiting for him to come down Superior Street. Run Daddy Run!
This is Patrick coming up on the last turn to the finish line.
This year was a bit different than past years in that our night was not spent at the tents. We did, however, visit a park where Charlotte sat in a swing for the first time.
She thought it was pretty awesome.
Then we all went for a hike in Chester Bowl. Patrick had fun showing the Vendlinski's some of his favorite Duluth running trails and reminiscing. Patrick and Jim hiked these ski hills after running the marathon and half-marathon - very impressive.
On Sunday we visited the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth; Pat had fun feeding the fish - he tried to make it look like he was getting the food for the twins to feed the fish...but really, he probably enjoyed it even more than they did. :)
Charlotte was especially fascinated with the bubbles in the fish tanks, and it was fun watching her eyes follow the fish, turtles, snakes, and birds. Next year this time she'll probably be talking and running around, which I'm looking forward to, but today was sure easy with the Baby Bjorn.
Spending the weekend in Duluth reminded us of how much we love it! We enjoyed visiting friends and learning that many people still read this blog - we thank you for your support! Hopefully we'll be able to return to Duluth for a weekend this fall...and maybe be reminded of some of the not-so-nice weather we've experienced in Duluth. :)
Happy Father's Day to Patrick! He's been through some big changes this year and has handled them all in stride. I doubt many dad's are thrown up on as much as he is, but as long as he keeps running races he won't run out of clean t-shirts!
