September 14, 2009

Our little miracle was quite the trouble maker today. She began the day by pulling out her feeding tube, during a feeding, and getting milk all over her hospital onesie. Later in the morning she was transitioned to the nasal cannula and as soon as the respiratory therapist left, she pulled it out of her nose. The nurse promptly taped the feeding tube and cannula to her face.
She continues to do well. The doctor toyed with skipping the cannula and letting her breathe on her own, but after a 2 minute test Charlotte showed she isn't quite ready. Hopefully the cannula provides enough support so that she doesn't tire out.
She lost 1 oz last night, down to 2 lb 6 oz. The doctor says this tends to happen when babies are taken off of intravenous feeding because it takes a bit more work to digest food. They increased her feedings by 1 ml to 21 mls every 3 hours in the hopes that she starts to gain weight.

She's doing so well! How wonderful that she's on full feeds, and they're already considering removing the cannula. Keep the good news and the cute pics coming!
